Black Roux Collective is what happens when a talented, Black chef combines the love of travel with a passion for food. Chef Maya created the concept of Black Roux Culinary Collective to bring the world to every table. Her immersive culinary experiences create a dynamic approach to studying and sampling the culinary traditions of diverse regions.

“Black Roux offers adult culinary classes geared toward the passionate home cook who is serious about expanding their knowledge and skill in multi-regional cuisine. Weekly classes delving headfirst into cultural cooking traditions will leave students with the confidence to prepare food from far away places with skill.”

There are also the Black Roux Culinary Excursions. Immersive travel experiences which aim to take students directly to the source. These excursions offer participants the opportunity to experience the world’s diverse culinary traditions up close and personal

Black Roux Farms

Black Roux Farms will be a living classroom that provides food to underserved communities and classes to underprivileged children to combat food insecurity. Our most pressing need is to obtain property for this farm. We would like to do this while remaining in the inner city area and not outsourcing to the suburbs. Black Roux Farms will be accessible by public transportation in a central New Orleans location.

We will provide free produce boxes to low-income families with an emphasis on families of color.

We will provide an upstart program for teens of color who wish to become culinary and farming professionals.

We will hold a monthly supper club featuring chefs of color who would otherwise be unable to be in the spotlight.

We will hold regular classes.. seminars.. and workshops for women of color who wish to farm, garden, or feed their children healthier.

While we are combating racism in this country... it is even more important to combat food deserts... food insecurity.. and hunger in our communities. Black Roux has a mission and we need your help.

Donations will be used to purchase land and fund the opening of the Farm Collective.
